General Orientation

How to use this booklet to make a fruitful Salesian Recollection

1. Preparation

Well before the day fixed for the Recollection, each member of the Apostolic Community/ Community should make a serious study of the theme for the day. Under the title Personal Study and Reflection, you have:

1.       Scripture references

2.       Teachings of St. Francis de Sales

3.       Biographical notes and

4.       Our Founder speaks.

This material is to be used for the recollection as a whole. Scripture references could be used for the Holy Hour and for the Eucharistic Celebration.

2. Recollection: The Procedure

The Recollection starts with a Holy Hour in the evening probably from 6.00 to 7.00 p.m. animated by one of the confreres appointed on the previous Recollection day.

In the morning of the following day the community gathers for Morning Prayer after which the animator presents the theme of the day for Meditation.

After breakfast the members meet for a discussion of the theme making use of the Points for Reflection and Sharing.

The discussion should lead to decisions, which will help us to assimilate and put into practice the insights and inspirations gained from the study of the theme and the sharing.

The date of the following Recollection is fixed and the confrere who is to animate the Recollection is appointed

The Recollection ends with the celebration of the Eucharist.
