Fr. Joseph Charriere

 

   An Apostle of the Poor

 

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

Fr Joseph Charriere, "an apostle of the poor," a member of the France-Swiss Province, died peacefully at the age of 80 on February 24, 2004. Fr Charriere was a truly enlightened representative of his faith. His life touched not only the MSFS confreres, but also all those who came in contact with him, especially the poor and needy at whose service he was with "an open door, an open heart, and a helping hand." He was born on December 28,1924 at Cernex, between St Julien and Annecy. He went to the minor seminary at Ville-La-Grand and Thones, before being a novice and a scholastic at Bonlieu. After his priestly ordination in 1951, he worked as a teacher in a technical school at Skikda, where he decided to be at the service of the poor. May this apostle of the poor rest in peace.
