Three Special Ministries

The Province of Pune has consciously and persistently encouraged three major specialized ministries in the Province: the ministry for the Handicapped at Wagholi (Pune), the ministry for the Street Children in Koparkhairane and its neighbourhood (New Mumbai), and the Integrated Rural-Pastoral Development in Gauthan (Maharashtra).

  • Snehalaya, the Institute for the Handicapped at Wagholi, Pune, with its big campus, and excellent infrastructure facilities is ready to re-orient itself to serve the partially mentally challenged group so that the facilities can be put to maximum use.

  • Mermier Bal-Bhavan, the centre for Street Children in Koparkhairane, is growing in its services with 8 auxiliary centres opened in the vicinity of sprawling New Mumbai, catering to the poor children of migrant workers, drop-outs from schools and economically backward families. It is heartening to note the positive support in cash and in kind that this Centre receives from the local people.

  • The rural development programmes in the remote village of Gauthan are an eye-opener to anyone wanting to see initiatives into social development. Responding to the opportunity of outsourcing of services by foreign companies, Gauthan has a Cyber Park of its own that employs about 50 rural youth after making them computer-literate.
