MKUZA:  A New Parish

Mkuza, a small township around 50 km away from the city centre in the Coastal Region of Tanzania, is in the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam. On January 24, 2004, on the feast of St. Francis de Sales, Cardinal Polycarp Pengo, the Archbishop of Dar-es-Salaam, inaugurated the new parish and entrusted it to the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales for pastoral care and administration. During the Eucharistic Celebration presided over by the Cardinal, Fr Johnson Pathiyil was installed the first Parish Priest of the new parish. Rev. Fr. Provincial, confreres, diocesan clergy, religious, political leaders and a large gathering of faithful witnessed the entire solemn function. The new parish, with a lot of initial difficulties and challenges for the new parish priest, functions from an old chapel.
