The spirituality of St. Francis de Sales is a “Spirituality of the Heart,” relevant today as in the time of St. Francis de Sales himself - an all-embracing, Down-to-earth Spirituality for everyone.

Provincial Congress at Annecy

Fransalian International,  Vol. 7  January 2004

Followed by the reappointment of Fr. Fournier for a second mandate as the Provincial Superior of the Franco-Suisse Province, about thirty of our confreres assembled for a Congress on September 21 at the diocesan centre “La Puya,” Annecy.  Primarily it was to evaluate the life of the province before we proceeded to the election of the new provincial administration.

After having read out the message of Fr. Superior General by Fr. Emile Mayoraz, Fr. Fournier presented a report of the last three years.  Then, Fr. Morel, the Provincial Bursar, tabled the financial statement before the confreres.  The new provincial administration consists of Frs. Frounier, the Provincial, Camille Meynet, councilor and admonitor, Yves Carron and Jean Yves Le Tue, councilors, and Fr. Le Tue, the Provincial Bursar.  Mgr. Boivineau, the Bishop of Annecy joined the participants of the Congress for lunch while Fr. Andre Chatenoud, Episcopal delegate to the consecrated life, spent the whole day with us.  The Provincial Congress was concluded with a thanksgiving mass celebrated at the shrine of Visitation.

Salesian Week in Annecy and Pilgrimage to Allinges

Fransalian International,  Vol. 1  January 1999

The France-Suisse Province is much attached to two important spiritual events at the end of each Summer in the diocese of Annecy: the Salesian Week at the shrine of Visitation and the Pilgrimage from Chablais to Allinges. Fr. Mercier, accompanied by a group of lay people organized the Salesian Week 2004, centred on the theme “All, called to Happiness." Four of our confreres conducted the preaching-programme with the help of a few diocesan priests, the bishop of Annecv and the bishop of Valence (invited for the concluding day).  A large number of pilgrims participated in the daily liturgy at the shrine as well as in guided visits in Annecy, in the footsteps of St Francis de Sales.

At Allinges, it was the local community with the help of other confreres from Ville-le-Grand who organized the annual pilgrimage to the shrine of St Francis de Sales. Mgr. Duval, former archbishop of Rouen preached on the theme “Creating new parishes.” Indeed, on the day of Pentecost, the bishop of Annecy announced officially the birth of 38 “new parishes" in the place of 320 old parishes. The re-grouping of the parishes was necessitated by the decrease in the number of priests available for pastoral work and faith formation.

Constitution Retreat

Fransalian International,  Vol. 1  January 1999

Following the directive of Fr. Superior General at the extraordinary General Chapter of 2003, the France-Suisse Province organized the annual retreat centred on our new constitutions on June 27 - June 02, 2004, at the shrine of Notre-Dame de Myans, close to Chambery, France.  About 15 confreres participated in the retreat animated by four other confreres.

First Profession at Bonlieu

Fransalian International,  Vol. 1  January 1999

After having completed his one year of novitiate, Raphael Mercier, from Annecy has made the first profession in the Congregation of St. Francis de Sales on September 18 at Bonlieu, Fribourg.  Fr. Jean Paul Fournier, the Provincial, received his vows.  It was an occasion of joy as well as hope for the France-Suisse Province, which had had no profession for the past 12 years.
