The spirituality of St. Francis de Sales is a “Spirituality of the Heart,” relevant today as in the time of St. Francis de Sales himself - an all-embracing, Down-to-earth Spirituality for everyone.

St. Francis de Sales Parish, Shantinagar

Fransalian International,  Vol. 7  January 2004

St. Francis de Sales Parish, Shantinagar, is the first MSFS centre in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.  It was established to catering to the spiritual and educational needs of people.  Within few years of its coming into existence, it has grown into a full established parish contributing substantially in the field of education too.  The Parish Priest, Fr. A. Francis Stephen, Principal, Fr. Jose Marie Thekkekutte, and the Assistant Parish Priest, Fr. Prabhat Ray, continue the legacy of predecessors and work for the overall growth of the local community through certain apostolic groups like B.C.C., Vincent de Paul Group, Legion of Mary, Mahila Mandal, and Youth Group.  The youth regularly organize Praise and Worship for the entire parish with the theme: Let Jesus Touch.  The ministry of formal education strives in forming young minds with vision for a better world through value based and quality education.

Fruit Bearing Mission at Levidi

Fransalian International,  Vol. 1  January 1999

Levidi, a 25-year-old parish, erected on July 12, 1981, is located on Andra Pradesh-Orissa border, 50 km away from Parvathipuram town. It is a small village with 89 families and is spread to 20 square km space consisting of 25 villages, both tribal and non-tribal communities of 500 Catholic families. The people, on the whole. are very poor, illiterate coolie workers lacking the basic facilities and amenities. They have their own little houses without owning any land of their own for cultivation.

A self-help programme has already been introduced in the villages to curb illiteracy. The 'student-children' educate, their own illiterate parents, brothers and sisters. They are encouraged in their handy-craft works, tailoring, weaving of clothes and embroidery that provide them with some employment. However, the people are very regular for charismatic prayer sessions, reciting rosary in each house, monthly fasting and prayer, and reception of the sacraments. May God bless the growth of this parish as it celebrates its silver jubilee in 2005.

Our Lady of Ross Hill: Hope of Visakhapatnam

Fransalian International,  Vol. 1  January 1999

Mgr. Jean Marie Tissot, the visionary Bishop of Visakhapatnam cherished a dream to erect a shrine facing the sea on the Dolphin Nose Mountain in honour of Blessed Mother, the Lady of Hope.  In 1867 when a house was on sale on Ross Hill, as it was believed to be haunted, the Bishop purchased it and erected a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Hope.

But when the violent cyclones greatly damaged the chapel and the town was beset with plague taking a considerable toll of lives of the ordinary people in the consequent years, the venerable Bishop, a devotee of Mary, made a Vow to erect a statue of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to obtain protection from the horrors of cyclone in the future. Accordingly, in 1877 the new chapel was blessed with the Statue of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart placed over the altar.  The annual feast of the Hill Chapel is celebrated with great pomp and splendour on December 8 preceded by the preparatory Novena starting on November 29.  The faithful and clergy of all parishes are invited to animate the novena prayers that are assigned to them in the schedule.  Undoubtedly, the shrine is rightly becoming the hub of spiritual activities.  There are prayer groups attached to this shrine.  In addition to the regular spiritual activities the shrine's 'spiritual animation team' is also conducting the healing and counselling services and the fasting and prayer sessions.  The Chain Rosary is turning out to be a successful movement involving and inspiriting innumerable Catholics.
