The spirituality of St. Francis de Sales is a “Spirituality of the Heart,” relevant today as in the time of St. Francis de Sales himself - an all-embracing, Down-to-earth Spirituality for everyone.

New Mission at Bashbari

Fransalian International,  Vol. 8 No.1 2005

At the invitation of Bishop Thomas Pullopillil of Bongaigaon, the MSFS North East India Province took up a mission in that diocese at Bashbari, about 18 km away from the national highway No. 31 in Dhubri District, Assam. The new parish priest, Fr. Joseph Chakalakal, took charge of his new assignment only on July 27, 2004. The parish has 11 catholic villages of Bodo, Garo and Rabha communities. Though they all speak their own distinct languages, the common link-languages are Assamese and Hindi. Despite the people of the parish being very enthusiastic, loving, generous, kind and hardworking, they continue to be poor, illiterate, and often without any legal right to their own plot of land. The overall development of the area is quite unsatisfactory, and it poses several challenges to our veteran missionaries.

Parish of War Jaintias

Fransalian International,  Vol. 8 No.1 2005

Ka syiem Jingsuk Parish, Amlarem, which also runs St Joseph's School, Dawki, inaugurated by Fr. Nicholas Bara, msfs, the Parish Priest, on October 21, 2005, is an important parish in the Archdiocese of Shillong. It consists predominantly of a unique group of people known as "War Jaintias." The novelty of the language and the nobility of their culture make missionary work extremely challenging and rewarding. About 36 villages, which come under the jurisdiction of the parish, have a considerable Catholic population thanks to the tireless efforts of the MSFS Fathers and their collaborators here.
