Today, with profound gratitude in our hearts, we place on record the tremendous service that the MSFS Fathers have been rendering to the Southern African Church, through parish ministry, retreats, and other specialized ministries. The 12 MSFS priests assigned to the Southern African Region are working in 8 parishes under 4 dioceses, spread over a vast territory of about 2500 km. Of the 8 parishes under our care at present, only three have two priests each, and single priests manage the other 5. Most of the parishes have outstations, some at a distance of 400 km. Apart from the two centres in Cape Town, which use English as medium, all the other parishes have liturgical services in their own local language. The absence of organized language courses, non-availability of qualified teachers, and alack of proper books make the learning of the languages quite difficult. The picture reflects the enormous work that the priests are called to do in their respective parishes. In addition to the parish ministry, there are other services that a priest is called to render, like hospital, school, and prison ministries.
