The General Council at its meeting of January 2005 approved the establishment of Chennai Region within Visakhapatnam province. The Region came into existence on January 24, 2005, while the official inauguration took place on January 28, 2005, at SFS Seminary, Pudukottai, with the installation of Rev. Fr. Amalraj Lawrence as its first Regional Superior. The Region is established to strengthen religious life of the members, for effective governance and for greater availability for the demands of the Mission of Christ. The first Assembly of the newly formed Region was held from February 16 to 18, 2005, at SFS Minor Seminary, Pudukottai, under the theme:

 

NOURISHED BY THE EUCHARIST WE RESPOND TO THE NEED (CALL) OF REVITALIZING THE FRANSALIAN MISSION IN THE SPIRIT OF OUR FOUNDER.
