The nature of and conditions at Parishes and Mission stations in India have undergone a sea change over the past several decades. The traditional parishes where the faithful flocked to and the priests held court are a thing of the past. Direct evangelization, though theoretically possible, is next to impossible due to certain unfavourable circumstances, such as the anti-conversion movements. Under the circumstances, the one effective option available to any and every missionary is to witness through his presence and life. Presence is more than physical. It must be an effective presence of involvement in the life of the people, with the people and for the people. People must not suspect our presence or our intentions. On the contrary, they should accept and respect our presence by their uninhibited and fearless contact with us. Allow the people to know you and the reasons for your presence. Do not close your door to any one and make sure, as much as possible, you are physically present at the station/parish every day.
