   Church and State: Estrada kisses Sin's ring

On June 28, 2005, the entire Church and nation of Philippines gathered together to bid final farewell to Cardinal Sin. Like all great persons, he was a man of contradiction. He was loved, yet disliked. He was a gentle pastor, yet an unyielding prophet. He was a serious and efficient organizer, yet a witty jester. He was a conservative protecting and defending the tradition of the Church, yet a progressive who preferred to work along the frontiers where brutal poverty broke human lives. However, he was a close friend of the MSFS from whom we received much encouragement and support in the growth of our mission in Philippines. For instance, he took a very personal interest in the Bagong Silang mission and personally visited the mission centre on several occasions.

 

 

We, the Missionaries of St Francis de Sales are one with Filipino people and Philippine Church in mourning the passing of our beloved father and caring shepherd, His Eminence Jame Cardinal Sin. May he rest in peace!
