The latest world statistics show Tanzania as one of the worst hit countries with a lot of blind people. Most of the partial blindness can be reduced to a great extent by opticals. Mermier Opticals could be a solution for many a blind person. It is an eye-testing centre recently established by Fr Sebastian Kuzhupil, msfs, in Morogoro. The centre was inaugurated on September 3, 2005 by Mr Mathew Sedoyeka, the District Commissioner of Morogoro, and was blessed by Rev. Fr Andreas Maftaha, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Morogoro, Tanzania. Mr Thomas Sauer, a representative of the Rotary Club Karlstadt-Arnstein, Germany, the donor of this project, did the "Switching On" of the optical machines.
