Poland: A Mission of Hope

 

 

 

  

 

  

 

Poland is one of the major catholic country now sending missionaries to overseas and Europe. In the recent news of Tages Post a news paper has published that there are 6700 seminarians in Poland. About 1601 to 1188 priests are in Germany, in France about 1603 to 1311 priests and in Austria about 387 to 356 priests are working. 

 

On 2nd December 2003 Fr. John Karondukadavil msfs of North East Indian province started the new mission of MSFS in Jasło in Poland. He was introduced by Fr. Andrew Garbarzo and was taught polish by Stanislaw Szawan. He was warmly welcomed by the Bishops Kazmir and Edward. Jasło is situated in south of Poland. It is a town with the population of 40,000 and there are six parishes to serve these people. Here one can see the faith of the people still alive.

 

Fr. John started his new mission with great enthusiasm. He began to celebrate the masses in polish language for the Sisters of Visitation for whom he is the chaplain. In fact he is given the priest quarters of the sisters for residence. He also goes to different schools to give talks and meet young students. He also gives his time for the youth here by teaching them English, German and Italian. Now he is waiting for Fr. Hepunii John from North East Indian province to help him in his new mission. Fr. John already started to give personal guided retreat for the people. He already guided Spanish, German and Polish nationalities. There are many people seeking for this form of retreats. This is a "Mission of Hope" for the MSFS Franco-Swiss province and congregation in general in Europe. Let us pray and support Frs.
