History of the Brasilian Province of the
Fransalians
Our province of
Brazil consists also of confreres of various origins unlike other
provinces. We have Brazileans, Swiss, French and Indian confreres.
Surely all of us have the same objectives and charisma but naturally it
is not all who have the same mentality. However the unity among the
confreres of the province is our strength. We are working in four
different states where the mentality and demands are different. Thus
each confrere has to adapt himself to the local or diocesan situation.
The Province of
Brazil also counts on great missionaries who have dedicated their lives
to the service of the Brazilean people. Among the confreres who deserves
to be mentioned are Br. Jacques Trunigger (92), Fr. Henri Nicolet and
Fr. Joseph Chappuis who have completed 50 years of priesthood. Perhaps
it may sound that Brazil is an ageing province. However in the year 1999
July, we had the ordination of a young Brazilean priest and this year
too we shall have another ordination of a young Brazilean candidate in
July. I am aware of the need to have more missionaries in the province,
and we are making a big effort to encourage authentic local vocations to
the congregation.
