Generosity
To understand better what is and in what consists this strength and generosity of spirit, I should in the first place answer to a question which has often been posed to me: In what does perfect humility consist. (Read further in Spiritual Conferences, Trans. by Fr. Ivo Carneiro MSFS)
Humility produces generosity
Humility which does not produce generosity is unquestionably false. After it has said: I can do nothing, I am nothing, but pure nothingness, at once it yields place to generosity which says: There is nothing and there can never be anything that I cannot do, since I put all my confidence in God who can do everything; and with this confidence, it undertakes courageously to do everything that is commanded or counselled, however difficult it may be. When I say that generosity will not allow us to doubt, I am speaking with regard to our higher nature, for it is quite possible that our lower may be full of these doubts, and may experience great difficulty in accepting the charge or employment which is given to us.
