Since the virtue of simplicity is a very necessary one, we ought to understand what it is.  It can be defined as an act of pure and simple charity which has only one aim, that of loving God.  Our soul is simple when in all we do or desire we have no other goal.

The virtue we are going to deal with is so necessary that, even though I have spoken about it several times, our Mother wants me to devote a whole conference to it.  It has to do with simplicity, which perhaps, we do not need to hear about here as much as elsewhere.

True simplicity is always good and agreeable to God.  I see that all the seasons of the year meet in your soul, that sometimes you feel the winter; on the morrow dryness, distractions, disgust, troubles, and weariness; sometimes the dews of May, with the perfume of holy flowers; sometimes the ardours of desire to please our good God.  There remains only autumn, of whose fruit, as you say, you do not see much.
